In this lecture, author Ylvie Wolf will give suggestions and tips on how self-written fanfiction can be turned into independent novel worlds. Using her own self-published novels “Herzeleid” and “LOS”, both of which were created from Harry Potter fanfiction, she will give examples and show a possible way forward.

She also talks about plotting, feedback and her own experiences with fanfiction in the past and today.

Blurb “Herzeleid”: As a sentimentalist, Kate doesn’t have it easy, because feeling other people’s feelings first hand can be stressful.

Laurin visits her math class for the first time, she feels his anger, his fear, his sadness. He lost his mother a year ago. In an attempt to support him, Kate meets his father and almost collapses from the force of his emotions.

How can she succeed in helping the small family, where a light touch would be enough to scatter the barely existing foundation of trust and cohesion to the winds?

The lecture is divided into the following (possible) sections:

  • Introduction of the author and the topic
  • Problems with the translation of fanfiction into the “real” (copyright, terms, themes, created worlds, …)
  • Examples from the author’s own books – Comparison of fanfiction and novel
  • The plotting
  • Feedback
  • Experiences
  • Questions
